Phi Delta Theta Foundation Chairman awarded with Legion of Merit

The Legion of Merit Award honors those outstanding members of our Fraternity who have made a lifelong commitment to the service of Phi Delta Theta. The recipients of this award are not only living testimony that Phi Delta Theta is a “Fraternity for Life,” but they are also the men who give this phrase meaning for so many of us.

W.L. Gray, Jr. was initiated into Phi Delta Theta on February 9, 1969, by the Texas Zeta Chapter at Texas Christian University.

Through the years, Brother W.L. Gray, Jr. has devoted much of his time to the advancement of the Phi Delta Theta. During his time in Austin, he helped resurrect both the local alumni club and the chapter at The University of Texas at Austin. He has served as Chairman of the Chapter Advisory Board and was named the University’s Chapter Adviser of the Year. W. L. was appointed a Trustee of the Phi Delta Theta Foundation in 2005, and he became Chairman of the Board in January of 2007.

Brother Gray founded and is currently Principal at Goodpasture Gray, an S.E.C. Registered Investment Advisory Firm. W.L. has more than 36 years of Wall Street experience serving as a Senior Vice President of major Wall Street firms, most notably Drexel Burnham Lambert and Kidder Peabody, in both New York and Texas. The Austin Business Journal in its January, 2004 edition named Goodpasture Gray to its Top 25 Money Management Firms

Brother Gray serves on the Board of Trustees of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church of Houston and he is a member of the Board of Visitors for the McDonald Observatory. He has also served on the Board of Directors of the South Texas Chapter of the Amyotrophic Lateral Schlerosis (ALS) Association and the Board of Advisors of the University of Texas College of Natural Science. W.L. and his wife, Lynn, are active members of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church of Houston. They have three sons, Sean, Will and Kyle and one daughter, Shannon.

For his lifelong dedication and commitment to Phi Delta Theta, the Fraternity honors Brother W.L. Gray, Jr. with the Legion of Merit.
